Several companies are finding that affiliate marketing is a great way to boost their internet presence at the fraction of the cost of advertising. Additionally, they only incur a cost is their advertising successfully reaches their customers. To maintain control over which websites they allow to display their ads, companies are using their own affiliate marketing tracking software.
With affiliate marketing, companies come to terms with other websites who agree to post their ads on their site. If a visitor to the affiliate site clicks on an ad and makes a purchase, the affiliate is paid a sales commission based on the terms of the affiliate agreement. With this type of arrangement, the company benefits by increased presence on the internet, the potential for increased sales as well as not having to pay for having the ad on the site unless a sale is made.
On top of that, the affiliate is busy marketing their own website to draw traffic as it will usually be hosting more than one affiliated site, and the more traffic they generate the better their odds of visitors making sales going through their site. The extra marketing efforts benefits all of the sites advertised on that site.
By using affiliate marketing tracking software the company can determine what type of ads are drawing the most click throughs to their site. It could be a simple text link or a static display ad. Animated graphics are also used but they are not as popular as static ads with affiliates. Many affiliates also want to be able to select the type and size they place on their site to maintain its appearance. While the company can offer data, based on their affiliate marketing tracking software, if they attempt to demand a certain size or type of ad placed, many affiliates will simply end their agreement.
The tracking software can also show how many unique or return visits clicked on the affiliate’s site and how any clicked through to their website without making a purchase. In addition, they can track which pages of their site the visitors went to, enabling them to design affiliate ads to take visitors to the most often visited pages. This information can be especially useful if the landing site of the ads are not the pages that visitors land on.
Affiliates also like this type of information as it can show them what type and style of ads are working for each company. An affiliate and website that freely share the information are essentially in a business relationship, each one counting on the success of the other. Either they both see an improvement in business or neither one of them does. It behooves both parties to strive for individual as well as combined success.
The affiliate marketing tracking software chosen by a company should be as complete as they can fit into their budget, realizing that the more data that is gleaned by the software the more useful it can be in making business decisions. Attempting to pass this cost to the affiliates would be an unacceptable business practice.
